Mike Tana
Folk & Americana Songwriter

Mike Tana started playing music at the age of 12. He was schooled on the trombone and since then has taught himself multiple instruments including the guitar, harmonica, and vocals. Growing up in the ’60s and ’70s, Mike’s songwriting has been highly influenced by many of the singers and songwriters of those decades. His folk music influences include John Denver, Kate Wolf, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, and his rock influences feature Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, and Chicago, to name a few. Mike’s country music influences are centered around Marty Robbins, Emmy Lou Harris, Glen Campbell, and Alan Jackson, along with many others.

Mike has played with a jazz ensemble and several local bands in different genres such as southern rock, rhythm and blues, folk and country. For Mike, performing either solo or with other musicians is definitely rewarding, although songwriting is his forte and what he’s most passionate about. Mike writes storytelling music inspired by his surroundings, and mastering multiple instruments has given him a more diverse outlook on his songwriting. His main goal these days is to write music for either established artists or new artists to pick up as singles, EP, or LP records, with the ultimate goal of capturing radio time.

What is Mike up to?

Playing solo acoustic shows at breweries, wineries, and small venues has always been Mike’s preference because of the intimate atmosphere, but he agrees that outdoor events and larger venues have their own energy. In 2021 & 2022, he has recorded his music at The Rock House Studio near Nashville, Tennessee with Kevin and Yates McKendree — well-known and respected musicians in the industry. Kevin is a keyboardist, guitarist, producer, songwriter, and engineer and has more than a dozen Grammy winning or nominated albums under his belt.
